I’m Looking Out For You
A temporary lighthouse on Dover Harbour
This colourful structure acted as a focus for You can reach the world from Dover 2023, the town’s summer-long arts festival. Located on the historic Clocktower square on Dover’s seafront, I’m Looking Out For You became a symbol of the festival’s inclusive and eclectic programme.
Affordably and easily assembled using scaffolding poles and debris netting, the structure formed a backdrop for musical events and offered a meeting point for many of the walks, tours and talks included in the festival. It also lit up at night, forming a brightly coloured beacon. The festival’s final event was a lantern parade featuring designs for lighthouses made by students from the University for the Arts in Canterbury as well as local families. The parade ended at CHA’s full scale but temporary lighthouse.
